    As an South African coach with som experience at international level (quite some time ago), I agree completely that the own-goal rule should be axed without delay. Apart from the reasons above, with which I fully concur, the rule leads to goals being scored that are totally unearned by the attacking side, who are simply hoping for minor errors by defenders. Goals should be earned by the skill of the attackers, not some quite unintended edge off the stick of an unfortunate defender. Let’s go back to one of hockey’s distinctive features, the touch by an attacker in the D.
